Although the earliest inhabitants of the area now know as Boca Raton Florida were native Americans (the Tequesta Indians) the community really came into its own with the completion of Henry Morrison Flagler's Florida East Coast Railway in 1896. The town of Boca Raton was incorporated in May of 1925 as the area experienced its first Boca Raton Real Estate land boom. The well known architect, Addison Mizner was commissioned by the town fathers to design a resort community with amenities that would give Boca Raton a world-class reputation. Mizner designed the Cloister Inn, which was mostly finished in 1926 and stands today as a city landmark known world-wide as the Boca Raton Resort and Club.
